Why TesLA?
Testing of modern IP networking equipment is a complex and expensive venture. The devices and networks that must be tested are often large and costly in and of themselves. In today's economic environment it's often financial infeasible for a QA department to own more than one or two fully equipped models. The test equipment required to fully exercise the devices under test (DUTs) can sometimes match the DUT in cost. Depending on the DUT's capabilities, multiple pieces of test gear might be required for a full test. With this age of converged networks and accelerated product lifecycles, it is essential that test lab managers do more with less.
In order to assure minimal time to market and the highest quality of service, it is essential that extensive testing occur at every phase of a product's life-cycle - during development, during product qualification, and during pre-deployment testing.
With such expensive resources, it's essential that they be fully utilized through automation. Automated test execution is the only means by which quality can be assured after product upgrades, network modifications, and software patches. It's often the case that unique DUT to test equipment connections, DUT configuration, and test equipment test programs are required. Round-the-clock manual reconfiguration is not an option for a busy test lab. Test automation has moved to center stage.
A busy test lab requires an overarching mechanism that coordinates DUTs, test equipment, and switching.
