TesLA overview

What is TesLA?

TesLA is the Test Lab Automation alliance. TesLA is a non-profit entity established in the United States in 2008.

  • The alliance members are drawn from various companies in various segments of the Network Lab and Test & Measurement industries. They includes vendors of layer1 switches, traffic generators, Wan emulators, test automation solutions, lab management solutions, and network test security solutions among others.
  • The alliance is governed by Bylaws agreed upon by all members as part of their membership agreement.
  • The alliance is run by the Board of Directors formed of representatives by the various members of the alliance.
  • The alliance is guided by the TesLA Customer Advisory Board (CAB), which is a group of representatives from leading global service providers and network equipment manufacturers that have a vested interest in the goals of the alliance. The CAB provides a customer's perspective of the future of IP test automation and provides advice and guidance to the TesLA Alliance as it moves forward with the strategic planning and implementation of the framework
TesLA's Goals
  • Define and publish standards for enabling unified, vendor agnostic automation in the Test & Measurement Industry. These standards are referred to as the "TesLA Framework".
  • Establish the "TesLA framework" as the benchmark for "unified multi-vendor" automation compliance.
  • Endorse and certify "TesLA framework" compliant commercial products developed by the member companies. I.e. plugins, automation tools and extensions.
  • TesLA is an open alliance. We invite participation from ALL vendors.

How are TesLA activities carried out?

TesLA alliance activities are carried out by designated alliance committees. These committees are chaired by members of the alliance with expertise in those designated areas. The currently active committees are:

TesLA Marketing & Membership committee, Chair Adam Stein, Mu Dynamics

This TesLA committee focuses on the marketing activities of TesLA. Activities are related to TesLA positioning and messaging, creating awareness, using social media to as a platform to allow members share their thoughts and TesLA experiences, providing TesLA promotional material to all members, Webinars and whitepapers from industry experts.

Additionally, the committee works towards expanding the TesLA membership base, providing introductory information to interested companies and helping induct them into the alliance.

TesLA Lab Standards Development committee, Chair Patrick Deloulay, Gale Technologies
This is one of the TesLA standard's committee that works towards authoring, reviewing, publishing and maintaining the standards associated with the lab management component of test automation. This includes standards for methods of lab equipment reservation, test topology definition and scheduling.

TesLA Plugin Standards Development committee, Chair TBD
This is one of the TesLA standard's committee that works towards authoring, reviewing, publishing and maintaining the standards related to network test and measurement equipment (e.g. traffic generators, WAN emulators, security solutions, and layer 1 switches). It focuses on creating standards for authoring and results and reporting interfaces.
